66CMS.,SEXES ALIKE,HEAD, NECK AND BREAST BLACK, HAS GOLDEN-YELLOW BILL,SMALL WHITE NAPE-PATCH SURROUNDED BY BLACK,LOWER PLUMAGE WHITE,FAINTLY TINGED WITH LILAC,WHOLE UPPER PLUMAGE PURPLISH-BLUE,BRIGHTER ON THE WINGS AND TAIL.FLIGHT FEATHERS TIPPED WITH WHITE,TAIL LONG AND GRADUATED,THE FEATHERS BLUE ,BROADLY TIPPED WITH WHITE,ALL, EXCEPT THE VERY LONG CENTRAL PAIR HAVING A BAND OF BLACK IN FRONT OF THE WHITE..SEEN IN SUMMERS AT HEIGHT OF 1600-2700 METRES AND IN WINTERS AT >800 METRES.THESE ARE ESSENTIALLY ARBOREAL BIRDS,USUALLY SEEN IN HEAVY JUNGLES BUT VENTURE OUT INTO TREES AMONG CULTIVATION,OR ONTO BARE MOUNTAIN SIDES AT HIGH ELEVATIONS.THEY FREQUENTLY FEED ON THE GROUND WITH A HOPPING GAIT AND TAI IS KEPT HIGH OFF THE GROUND.THEY FEED ON SMALL MAMMALS,THE EGGS AND YOUNG OF OTHER BIRDS,INSECTS,WILD FRUITS AND BERRIES.
